Should you wait for the Black Friday monitor deal?
Black Friday is coming up and the big question to ask is, is it worth waiting until the day you buy your monitor? The answer is a bit more complex as monitor prices drop significantly in November.
If you can wait, waiting until Black Friday would be a great way to take advantage of a great deal that is sure to save you loads of money. You’ll most likely also find that you can get more powerful monitors with better specifications than what’s currently on the market, which is a good thing because better specs mean a product that lasts longer.
However, PCs, especially now in the work-from-home economy, are extremely important to many households, and some people can’t afford to wait that long for a monitor. If that’s the case, definitely invest in one right now as there are tons of great deals out there, even if they don’t match the Black Friday price drops.

When will the best Black Friday monitor deals start in 2022?
Black Friday will be on November 25 this year, and as per tradition, expect some excellent sales before then. Traditionally, the best discounts have been on the day itself, and while this is still generally true, retailers have been more likely to introduce Black Friday prices earlier in recent years, such as at the start of Thanksgiving week, if not sooner.
Even before this week, there are many sales in the month leading up to this special day, with some as early as October. Based on last year’s deals, some of them may be almost or even equal to the Black Friday deals in and around. And this is a pattern that should repeat itself this year.
In 2021, a number of retailers such as Dell, Amazon, and Best Buy launched early Black Friday monitor deals in early November, and this has already been repeated in November 2022. So definitely keep an eye out for them.

What specs should I look out for when buying a Black Friday monitor?
One of the most important things to keep in mind when looking for Black Friday monitor sales is that retailers are trying to push back old stock. This means you might come across what looks like a great deal, only to find out later that the monitor is several years old and has outdated specs. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s useless, as most monitors are still perfectly usable.
Note that monitors should be at least 1080p, which is the absolute minimum HD resolution, ideally 4k if you can afford it, but 1080p is still fine. From there, your needs will vary depending on the type of work you need the monitor for.
For example, if you do professional work such as photography or video editing, you need a monitor with color spaces that allow proper color correction. 98% color gamut support at least as high as DCI-P3 as it ensures that any other monitor viewing this professional footage will see images and video in the correct colors across the board. Brightness is also an important factor in image quality and color accuracy, with the higher the number the better. 200 nits and above is a great place to start.
Meanwhile, for gaming monitors, the two most important factors aside from resolution are refresh rate and response time. For the former, the higher the number, the better, as it represents the number of screen refreshes per second. Refresh rates of 144Hz and above are especially good.
The latter must have the lowest number possible because it represents the time it takes to change from one color to another, with lower numbers representing a much sharper and clearer image. The 1ms response time is especially useful for gaming and is what you want to aim for.
What about Black Friday gaming monitor deals?
If you are buying a professional monitor, then support for 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut with a set of color spaces such as Adobe RGB, sRGB, Rec. 709 is essential to ensure the highest and most accurate color and image quality. For a gaming monitor, a high refresh rate and fast response time are important for a smooth and responsive gaming session.
If you’re looking for monitors at lower prices, keep in mind that some manufacturers may cut corners with some other specs to bring that price down. For example, one of the inexpensive monitors sold last year has poor sound quality to offset other high specs like 4k resolution.
